A Day in the Life of My Skin

It doesn't take long to really understand what your skin is saying to you if you just pay attention. They say, it is the largest organ of the body. It is also your biggest organ of defense against the environment. In this case, the things that you put on your skin, or bug bites or trauma like a burn all have signals telling us when they are irritating us!

Don't be surprised when your skin shouts at you for wearing a sunscreen that isn't enough protection in the Mediterranean sun. It's called a sun burn, but you know what I mean by shouting at you. Ouch! If your skin gets burned by the sun or when you touch the stove by accident it's nerve receptors let's you know you are in danger. These are loud moments, but I can tell you that it talks to you all the time, if you listen it will tell you what it needs.

When I get up in the morning, I take a shower. I BLOT my skin dry because I have learned that when I RUB off the water, I also remove any excess moisture my skin needs. My skin is so dry that when I don't just wrap up and wick the water away, leaving some, I feel stiff and it reminds me of the scene in the Wizard of Oz when the Tin Man is getting oiled. I personally KNOW how good it feels to use the moisturizer that is right for my skin.

I found this great tool a couple of years ago. You could only get them on line then. It is a moisturizing wand. You can put your moisturizer inside of a round plastic head that has 19 roller balls. When you roll this on your skin- my back appreciates this greatly- it distributes the moisturizer in just the right amount. You can still get these on line but, Bed Bath and Beyond also carries them. They are a GREAT GIFT for someone you know who cannot reach their back or even FEET! A grandparent or someone older who is having difficulty will appreciate the independence and comfort this magic moisture wand will provide.
